Here's an all-curry edition:
ReplyDelete1. Deciding, without hesitation, to go out for Indian after a long day of farmers' market-ing in the windy, cold rain. (We'd already come home and had even settled into our slippers and dry clothes.)
2. Realizing that exactly what I'd been unconsciously craving for about a week beforehand was now on the table in front of me (rogan josh and a strong cup of sweet, milky chai.) With live sitar music in the background.
3. Tasting the most exquisite mixture in the little silver bowl of "stuff" near the exit. It's usually just fennel seeds, but this stuff was like...edible incense, to the degree that I wasn't sure I was supposed to eat it, at first, but then I saw the tiny sugar cubes. Here are the flavors that I detected, though I'm sure there was more to it: fennel, licorice root, wintergreen, dried rose petals, orange peel, lime leaves, clove, and cardamon. It was the most complex thing I've ever tasted. Isn't there something the Kama Sutra is always telling you to chew? Betel leaves? Maybe they were in there too.
