  3. Number 1 yes, but only when it goes somewhere. When the song changes key to string things out and mask the fact that it's a boring song, then it's a Bad Thing.

    Eg: Michael Jackon - Earth Song: bad.
    James Taylor - Mexico: good.

  4. I like the way you hear the change, and then your brain tries to pretend nothing is different. But I'm going to look out for good examples and bad examples from now on, and next time I mention it you will think me a model of good musical taste!

    It's like the old trick of repeating the last line and fading out for no good reason other than that the arranger can't think of a way of ending it.
