1. The shortest night and the longest day. I was up at Wellington Rocks with Anna, Paul and Jason. We couldn't see the sun through the mizzling clouds, but we had got up at 4am and were there observing the moment it came up, and that's what counts. 2. Food at The Junction Inn , Groombridge. All four lunchclub members were impressed by the quality -- although the portions were rather small. I had smoked eel with beetroot cream (Oli says that sounds like witch food, but it was delicious, and didn't taste of beetroot at all); Ed and Doug had wild mushroom risotto; and Johnny P got his face round a huge homemade burger. It had chips with it that were very good too -- I know this because I stole some. 3. Taking The Mother's homemade cakes to work. There were three -- one chocolate, one coffee and walnut and one lemon with homemade jam in the middle. There was a lot of stickiness in the office for most of the afternoon.
I think peanuts are the only nuts that suit being salted. Almonds, brazils and hazelnuts are so much nicer plain, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI've got a beautiful thing for today: I've been away for 10 days on holiday without internet access. Reading up on your 3bt's has been one of the nice things about coming home again, as well as getting to sleep in my own bed, lady grey cups of tea, and catching up with everything and everyone.

Do a search for "Rose" and "Robert" and find out...

The Girl -- glad you are enjoying the blog. Hope 3BT eased the transition from holiday to workaday! I have a real taste for roasted salted hazelnuts and almonds and cashews and macadamias and pecans. But brazil nuts I can take or leave, and I prefer my peanuts plain with their skins on. Isn't it funny how different people are!
ReplyDeleteTimmy -- Trouble is that searching for Rosey/Rose brings up lots of references to rose petals and rose quartz; and searching for Robert/Rob brings up Robert Silverberg and Robert E. Howard and other Roberts. I suppose I could go through it all carefully and count. I think Rosey wins -- she got a bit of a headstart because we spent so much time together in Africa. I'm secretly hoping the challenge will result in them competing to be nice to me.
Without doing any research I suggest olives.
ReplyDeleteI haven't commented here in ages. Am so glad to see that you still do this. It's a wonderful source of inspiration. Thank you!
