A distraction, a moment of sunlight and can't stop.

1. Arriving very early for a job interview, I go over the road for a coffee. A former colleague, his wife and baby are at the next table. We chat; the baby and I make faces at each other. When it's interview time, I find my nerves have settled.

2. Minutes after I get home, the sky darkens and it starts to rain once more, this time so hard that the sound is just one angry hiss.

3. Linda shows us the opening of Death and the Maiden and then doesn't know when to stop the tape because we are all riveted.

Hoping for blue sky, late-running and ready for morning.

1. We are fairly sure that even when we've slogged up the hill, we won't be high enough to look down on the morning's mist lying in the valley and in the town's bowl -- but we can still hope. 2. Of course, as soon as I put the lunch on, the late-running boiler man taps at the door. 3. The night before food tech: bright portions of vegetables packed into boxes and stacked in the fridge, and dry ingredients waiting on the breakfast table.
