Home help, shots and cult film

Four things today. No special reason, except that I've been having fun.

1. A wonderful flatmate who does Saturday morning tasks so I can further my writing career.

2. A dubious drink made of warm rum and avocaat topped with whipped cream. It is drunk through a straw so you can fully appreciate the mixture of hot and cold.

3. I comment that there are a lot of familiar songs on Lou's iPod. This is because we both own the Empire Records soundtrack. We decide that this is a film that needs watching tonight.

4. Whipping cream and making white sauce -- and showing Lou the miraculous transformations that occur when doing these things.

  1. what is avocaat? is it like an avocado? what you described sounds like a guacamole and rum concoction!

  2. "Advocaat is a rich and creamy Dutch liqueur made from a blend of egg yolks, aromatic spirits, sugar (or honey), brandy, vanilla and sometimes cream (or evaporated milk)"

It tastes a bit like almonds.

Clare - Your daily 3BT always give me a cozy-English-winter-with-a-cup-of-tea sort of feeling and inspires me to keep track of my own in my paper journal. Congratulations on your 100,000th hit :)

  3. Molly -- Check that Wikipedia article out (linked in Cass's comment). You were right about the avocado.

Anonymous -- Lou is a friend of mine.

  4. Clare
You have a flatmate who takes care of Saturday morning chores so you can further your writing career! Hold on to your flatmate for dear life. She is a gem! Please convey my envy to her and ensure she is treated with special attention on my behalf. And if she's ever visiting New Zealand...

  5. Empire Records is such a gem of a film. So underrated. Three great actresses - Liv Tyler, Robin Tunney and Renee Zellweger, before her Bridget Jones yo-yoing destroyed her looks. More people should watch this film.

I'm glad you reminded me of it. I'm going to track down a copy now.
