Moos, new way and better eating.

1. A dun cow with an enormous white calf sitting in the sun.

2. Walking on a new path through the woods. I saw an enormous beech tree with streaks of golden leaves, and a red fairytale mushroom. And a deer leapt across the path in front of me.

3. Our local supermarket is closing down -- which could be bad because I will probably starve to death; but it also could be good because it might get bought by Waitrose, a classy establishment which would never, ever put mouldy veggies on a stand labelled 'Still fresh -- reduced for quick sale' and I don't suppose they would run out of milk on a Sunday, either. And I bet they sell fresh dates, and avocados that don't bounce.

  1. If only Waitrose would buy the former Safeways premises, it would certainly be a beautiful thing!

  2. There's a Co-op near my parents' and it's not so good. But they do label their food well, and their loyalty card is brilliant.

  3. That is such a lie about the deer.

  4. So not! The woods round the office are INFESTED with deer. You can't move without seeing one...

  5. My fantasy is that someone should take over the Safeways building and turn it into a permanent continental-style market, with lots of stalls, which do not cost a lot to maintain and which can sell largely local, non-standardised products, particularly diary products, vegetables, meat and fish. Some hope! We don't have that sort of economy nor those sort of entrepreneurs. But wouldn't it, as the song says, be loverly?

  6. My avocado story (sorry to take your blog room)-
I had a customer with a 60 acre avocado grove. Visiting one day he asked if I wanted any windfalls - they can't sell any that drop off the trees, and had a big wind just before harvest. I said yes, my trunk was optn and went in to work. Driving home the car moved funny. Arriving home and opening the trunk I found it full to the brim - probably 1000 pounds of ripe avocados. I don't even like them, and had a hard time giving that many away. Does make good quacamole though.
