1. A number of beautiful things happened while I was marketing today: 'You're running a bit late this morning.' 'And I'm going to throw in a free foccacia.' 'Oh don't worry if you haven't got that pound - give it to me next time. You're a regular.'
2. Kentish cob nuts. The shells in their ribbed hoods are still greenish, downy and soft enough to crack with my back teeth. The nut inside is ripe, sweet, juicy and crunchy. I used to love picking them from the overgrown hedge in my parents' garden.
3. A comforting hot water bottle for an aching midriff. I also love the warm patch left behind when you move it round to some other complaining muscle.
Are you talking about the Tunbridge Wells farmers market that I've been reading about? I put that #1 on the list of things I want to see when I'm visiting my sister next month. Will these Kentish cob nuts be available in September?
ReplyDeleteI love farmers markets. I especially love farmers markets countries other than my own. I even got so fascinated by everything at Tesco that the security guard followed me around, sure that I was up to something shady. But it *is* interesting that (IMO) you have less junk food in UK grocery stores than in American ones!
Wouldn't the market happenings each be an item on their own?
ReplyDeleteAnd Cob Nuts? Don't think there is a US equivalent. Sound interesting.
Hey Joe,
ReplyDeleteNah, it was all one biiig experience - I'm the one who decides what constitutes a Beautiful Thing around here :-)
Cob nuts are a sort of hazel nut. They are about the size of a large top thumb joint, and they are usually eaten green. Learn more here - Kentish Cobnut Association.
