Wet day, waiting at the station and hearing the rain.

1. I like to wake up to a dramatic change in the weather: the sky is dark, and all but the closest houses are indistinct in the mist. I like to be called back from my work by the hissing of heavy rain.

2. To be waiting outside the station, sheltering from the drizzle with the smokers and the taxi drivers; and to see my husband come through the gates from the platform.

3. We eat supper with the doors open so we can hear the rain falling in the garden and chuckling in the gutters.

Shower, sparrow and night before bin day.

1. The rain comes down in rushing spate, drowning downpipes and running in fans over the asphalt. Next time I look up, the sun is out, water...
